1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and us.
If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms, and “you” will refer to both you and the organization.
2. Description of Service
HTPBE provides an automated PDF authenticity checking service that analyzes PDF metadata, structure, signatures, and content to detect potential modifications or tampering. The Service uses algorithmic analysis to assess the likelihood that a PDF file has been edited or modified since its creation.
Important: The Service provides analytical results based on technical metadata analysis. Results are indicative and should not be considered definitive proof of authenticity or modification. The Service is not a substitute for professional document verification or forensic analysis.
3. Eligibility and User Accounts
The Service is available to users who are at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in their jurisdiction, whichever is higher. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.
The free web interface may be used without creating an account. However, access to the API and paid subscription plans requires registration. Registration is performed via third-party OAuth providers (Google, GitHub) or passwordless email magic links, and we collect the name and email address provided by those providers upon sign-up.
API keys are provisioned automatically upon account creation. You are responsible for keeping your API keys confidential and for all activity conducted under your account.
4. File Upload Restrictions and Requirements
File Format: You may only upload files in PDF format. Any other file formats will be rejected.
File Size: Files must not exceed 10 megabytes (10 MB) in size. Files exceeding this limit will be rejected.
File Storage Policy: Uploaded PDF files are not stored or retained after analysis. Files are temporarily processed for analysis purposes only and are permanently deleted immediately after analysis is complete. We store only the analysis results (metadata, verdict, and technical findings), not the actual PDF files. Once analysis is complete, the original file is permanently removed from our systems.
File Ownership: You represent and warrant that you have the legal right to upload and analyze any file you submit to the Service. You must not upload files that you do not own or have authorization to analyze.
Prohibited Content: You must not upload files containing illegal, harmful, malicious, or inappropriate content, including but not limited to: malware, viruses, copyrighted material without authorization, confidential information without proper authorization, or content that violates applicable laws or regulations.

- Indicative and probabilistic, not definitive
- Subject to limitations of automated analysis
- Not a substitute for professional document verification
- Not admissible as legal evidence without additional verification
We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any analysis results. False positives and false negatives are possible. You should not rely solely on the Service’s results for critical decisions.

17. Taxes and VAT
Prices: All prices listed on the Website are exclusive of applicable taxes. The final amount charged, including any applicable VAT or other taxes, will be displayed at checkout before payment is confirmed.
EU Consumers: If you are located in a European Union member state and do not provide a valid business VAT number, Finnish VAT (25.5% as of 2026) will be added to your purchase. We are VAT-registered in Finland and apply Finnish VAT to all consumer sales within the EU.
EU Businesses — Reverse Charge: If you are a VAT-registered business in an EU member state other than Finland and provide a valid EU VAT number at checkout, VAT will not be charged. The VAT reverse charge mechanism applies, and you are responsible for accounting for VAT under the rules of your own member state.
Non-EU Customers: Customers located outside the European Union are not subject to EU VAT. No VAT will be added at checkout. You are solely responsible for any local taxes, duties, or levies that may apply in your jurisdiction.
Tax is calculated automatically at checkout using Stripe Tax. EU VAT numbers are validated in real time through the EU VIES (VAT Information Exchange System). Our VAT registration number is FI29845875 (Finland). Tax receipts and invoices are available through your account billing portal.
18. Subscription Terms and Billing
Billing Cycle: Paid subscriptions are billed monthly in US dollars (USD) starting from the date of initial purchase. Each subscription renews automatically on the same calendar date each month (the “renewal date”) unless cancelled before that date.
Included Quota: Each plan includes a fixed number of API requests per billing period: Starter — 30 requests, Growth — 350 requests, Pro — 1,500 requests. The quota resets at the start of each new billing period and does not carry over.
Overage Charges: If the included quota is exceeded during a billing period, each additional request is charged at the overage rate for your plan: Starter — $0.60 per request, Growth — $0.50 per request, Pro — $0.40 per request. Overage charges are added to your next invoice and collected automatically.
Plan Changes: You may upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time via the Stripe Customer Portal accessible from your billing dashboard. Upgrades take effect immediately; Stripe calculates a prorated charge for the remainder of the current billing period. Downgrades take effect at the next renewal date.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time via the Stripe Customer Portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Your subscription and API keys remain active until that date. Upon expiry, API keys are deactivated automatically and your plan reverts to the free tier. Any overage accrued in the final billing period is calculated at cancellation and charged in a final invoice.
Payment Failure: If a scheduled payment fails, the subscription status changes to “past due”. Stripe will retry the charge according to its retry schedule. If payment is not recovered, the subscription may be cancelled and API access suspended.
Invoices and Receipts: Tax invoices and billing history are available at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal. All charges are processed by Stripe, Inc. as payment processor.
19. Right of Withdrawal (EU Consumers)
Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU, consumers residing in the European Union have the right to withdraw from a contract for services within 14 days of conclusion without giving any reason (the “withdrawal period”).
Waiver of the Right of Withdrawal: Pursuant to Article 16(m) of the Directive, the right of withdrawal does not apply to digital content or services that are not supplied on a tangible medium once performance has begun, provided the consumer has given prior express consent to performance commencing before the withdrawal period expires and has acknowledged that the right of withdrawal is thereby lost.
By completing checkout and subscribing to the Service, you expressly request that we begin providing access to the Service immediately upon payment confirmation. By proceeding, you acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal once the Service has commenced.
Withdrawal Before First Use: If you have not yet made any API requests or used the Service in any way, you may exercise the right of withdrawal within 14 days of your initial subscription by contacting us by [email protected]. In that case, you will receive a full refund of the subscription fee paid.
Non-Applicability to B2B: The right of withdrawal applies only to consumers (natural persons acting outside their trade, business, craft, or profession). If you are subscribing in the capacity of a business, the right of withdrawal does not apply.
20. Refund Policy
Subscription Fees: Monthly subscription fees are non-refundable once the billing period has started, except as required by applicable law (including EU consumer withdrawal rights as described in §19 above) or in the case of a billing error.
Overage Charges: Overage charges reflect actual API requests consumed and are non-refundable.
Billing Errors: If you believe you have been charged incorrectly (for example, due to a duplicate charge or a technical error), please contact us by email [email protected]. within 30 days of the charge. We will investigate and, if a billing error is confirmed, issue a full refund for the erroneous amount within 14 business days.
Service Unavailability: We do not guarantee uptime or uninterrupted availability (see §9). In cases of extended and verifiable outages directly attributable to our infrastructure (exceeding 24 consecutive hours), we may issue a pro-rata service credit at our discretion. Service credits are applied to future invoices and are not redeemable as cash.
Cancellation and Remaining Period: When you cancel a subscription, you retain access until the end of the current billing period for which you have already paid. No partial refund is issued for the unused portion of the period.
